The Back-up Collision Intervention System or (BCI), can help alert the driver of an approaching vehicle or object behind the vehicle when the driver is backing out of a parking space. If enabled, the system operates when the shift lever is in Reverse and the vehicle speed is less than approximately 5 miles-per-hour.

If an approaching vehicle or rear object is detected, the system notifies the driver with one or more of the following:
● Warning chimes,
● The Blind Spot Warning indicator lights on the inside of the front doors, and
● Indicators on the AroundView Monitor on the upper touch screen display.

If necessary, the system applies brief braking pressure while the vehicle is moving backward. After the automatic brake application, the driver must continue to depress the brake pedal to maintain brake pressure. If the driver's foot is on the accelerator pedal, the system will push the accelerator upward before applying the brake. If you continue to press the accelerator, the system will not engage the brakes.

The BCI system can be turned off temporarily by touching the BCI system key on the upper display. After touching that key, the BCI ON indicator turns off. The BCI system automatically turns back on when the engine is restarted or the shift lever is moved out of, and then back into the reverse position.

To permanently enable or disable the BCI system:
● Press the MENU button on the control panel,
● Touch SETTINGS on the lower touch screen display,
● Touch CAMERA/SONAR,
● Touch CAMERA,
● Then BACK-UP COLLISION INTERVENTION to toggle the feature on or off.

If the BCI is permanently turned off, it remains off when the shift selector is placed in reverse or when the engine is restarted.
